Mumbai: 5th National Conference of Resident welfare Associations was held on 18th and 19th Nov 2017, at Mumbai. Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of state for housing and urban Affairs( Independent Charge), Government of India was the chief Guest at the event. The conference cum exhibition was organized jointly by Maharashtra Societies Welfare Association and AGNI with a focal theme of Swachha Bharat Mission and Swachha Administration. The event had the support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
Col Tejandra Pal Tyagi, the Convener of this year’s conference, introduced all the guests, dignitaries, distinguished personalities and members of CORWA and the members of the managing committee. CA. Ramesh Prabhu, Chairman Maharashtra Societies Welfare Association, delivered the welcome address. Representatives of CORWA from across the length and breadth of the country attended the conference. There were Eminent speakers from Hyderabad, Vizag, Delhi, NCR, Chennai, Bengaluru, Karimnagar, Trivandrum and other cities and towns who submitted their views and opinions on the focal theme..There were presentations and discussions on varied topics namely Swachh administration, Water conservation, RERA etc but the pivotal discussions were centered around Swachh Bharat Mission and Solid waste management. Shri.Sukthankar, ShriVenugopal, Maj Shiv Kiran, Shri R.S. Rathi, Shri Uday Shirname, Smt Shyama Kulkarni, Dr.Zakir Kazi, Shri B.T.Srinivasan, Shri. Nitesh Jadhav,Smt Rekha Chari, Smt Shamala Murthy, Shri Prakash Padikkal, to name a few, participated in the proceedings and engaged the audience. The best RWA awards were announced by Col. Tyagi and later on the Mementos, Certificates and the conference kits were awarded to the winners. The conference kits were sponsored by Hamsa Foundation, Hyderabad represented by Smt.TVR Chandra.
The post lunch session started off with the video clip on Fire Audit and Safety with the Chief Fire Officer, Shri. Prabhat Rahandale as the Chief guest. There were presentation by the CFO and also panel discussions by panelists on all the aspects of Fire safety and Audits.
The guests and the audience were enthralled by the cultural programme that was presented in the evening.
Day two of the conference started with the session on RERA where Shri.Gautam Chatterjee, Chairman MahaRERA was the chief guest. He not only explained the nuances of various provisions in the act, but also answered questions from the audience. He explained how the act is still in the evolving stage and how it will bring a sea change in the real estate sphere.
The following session was chaired by Shri.Ajit Kumar Jain, Commissioner RTI as the chief guest. There was a panel discussion on RTI and its implications on society in particular and to citizens on a whole. Shri. Shailesh Gandhi, former Chief Information Commissioner was part of the discussions and put forth the viewpoint from the consumers’ perspective.
The Addl Commissioner, waste management of the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai, Shri. Ashok Singhal was the next dignitary to occupy the dais. He explained in detail the various steps that have been taken by the municipality towards solid waste management and also the need of the citizens to come forward and support the objective. He also answered many questions connected to swachhta and solid waste management to the satisfaction of all.
In the post lunch session, the audience had the opportunity to interact with the Lokayukt of Maharashtra, Justice Tahaliyani. The session was totally interactive and the Lokayukt did not leave any stone unturned in giving reply to the open house.
The most eagerly awaited session witnessed the maximum attendance, which was apt to the occasion as it had the Hon. Minister of Housing and Urban affairs, Govt of India Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri as the Chief Guest. The 5th NCRWA Souvenir was released by the hands of the Hon. Minister. He not only delivered his speech on Urban development, Swachh Bharat Mission, Solid waste management, Affordable housing etc but also advocated that 2nd October 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji should be celebrated in a complete clean environment. The Minister also considered appeals like bringing out the municipal bonds, becoming a patron member of the confederation of RWAs and even spoke about putting a proposal to his ministry to consider granting constitutional status to RWAs similar to that of local self government. The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kirit Somaiyya, who represents the electoral constituency, was present at the function. The real estate awards in different categories were handed over by the Minister to developers of repute and to consumer centric builders who were nominated by the jury.
Being the 64th All India Co-operative week, the Valedictory function and final session of the conference had the State Co-operative Election Commissioner, Shri. Madhukar Chaudhary as the Chief Guest. He described all the important points relating to the election procedures of the co-operative housing society and took questions from the audience present.
The first day sessions were hosted and moderated by Col Tejandra Pal Tyagi and the second day by CA. Ramesh Prabhu.
Shri. Sukthankar, Shri. Sharad Kumar, Shri. B.T. Srinivasan, Shri.Ramesh Prabhu and Col Tyagi were all present on the dais, representing the organizing committee for all the sessions.
The conference concluded with a vote of thanks from the President Shri Sharad Kumar and by singing of the National Anthem.
