Resident Welfare Associations are the finest expression of civil society consensus; an answer to urban problems; a tool for community building and for self-management and direct democracy.
The Confederation of RWAs (CoRWA) is a PAN India RWA Apex Body founded in 2012 at Hyderabad and ever since its inception has made rapid strides in playing a key role in spreading the RWA Mission across the length and breadth of the country.
From the First National Conference of RWAs (1st NCRWA-2012) held in Hyderabad in Nov., 2012 to the recent 5th NCRWA in Mumbai, CoRWA made its impact felt in almost all major cities of the country and is able to bring together all like-minded people to a common platform every year to discuss and deliberate on several issues of civic life.
CoRWA transformed RWAs to a policy making Body in major issues like solid-waste management, RERA Act implementation, RTI, Housing Society problems, Pollution, and other issues of urban environment. The fact that the Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development and the Chief Guest for the 5th NCRWA Conference, Mumbai (18th and 19th Nov., 2017) Sri Hardeep Singh Puri openly announcing that the Government is considering a proposal to give constitutional status to RWAs, clearly proves that” the RWAs are here and their voice loud and clear”.
