The Confederation of RWAs (CoRWA) is the PAN India RWA Apex Body founded in 2012 at Hyderabad and ever since its inception has made rapid strides in playing a key role in spreading the RWA Mission across the length and breadth of the country.
From the First National Conference of RWAs (1st NCRWA-2012) held in Hyderabad in Nov., 2012 to the recent 5th NCRWA in Mumbai, CoRWA made its impact felt in almost all major cities of the country and is able to bring together all like-minded people to a common platform every year to discuss and deliberate on several issues of civic life. CoRWA transformed RWAs to a policy making Body in major issues like solid-waste management, RERA Act implementation, RTI, Housing Society problems, Pollution, and other issues of urban environment. The fact that the Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development and the Chief Guest for the 5th NCRWA Conference, Mumbai (18th and 19th November 2017) Sri Hardeep Singh Puri openly announcing that the Government is considering a proposal to give constitutional status to RWAs, clearly proves that” the RWAs are here and their voice loud and clear”.
RWAs journey of coming together at National level started when Dr Rao VBJ Chelikani, President, United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (U-FERWAS) in the year 2012 proposed first National RWAs Conference to bring prominent RWAs across the country on to a platform to discuss issues & to showcase the success stories.
The first ever National RWAs Conference was successfully conducted at Hyderabad on 22nd & 23rd November 2012 and RWAs from 11 states participated, a National Status Report on RWAs was released & the Conference has witnessed tremendous response and given opportunity for the delegates to exchange their views on various issues predominantly concerning RWAs across the country.
During that Conference everyone felt and endorsed the idea to have an organisation at National level to take forward the RWA movement., With the set goal, once again RWAs met and formed Interim National RWAs body at Noida, UP in the year 2013.
The first National Interim Committee (NIC) meeting was held at the Federation of Residents Welfare Association, Trivandrum, Kerala on 19th August 2013 which was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The 2nd and 3rd National RWAs Conferences were held in Hyderabad in the year 2014 & 2015. and hosted by U-FERWAS.
The 4th National Conference of Resident Welfare Associations was successfully conducted at Visakhapatnam on 27th & 28th November 2016 and Inaugurated by Sri Venkaiah Naidu ji, Union Urban Development Minister. The Conference was hosted by APFERWAS of Visakhapatnam & supported by Ministry of Urban Development.
The 5th National Conference of Resident welfare Associations was held on 18th and 19th Nov 2017, at Mumbai. Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of state for housing and urban Affairs was the chief Guest. The Conference was organized jointly by Maharashtra Societies Welfare Association and AGNI with a focal theme of Swachh Bharat Mission and Swachh Administration. The conference had the support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
Apart from National Conferences, CoRWA organised a National level meet on ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in association with Confederation Of NCR Resident Welfare Associations, AOA Federation Ghaziabad, supported by Ministry Of Urban Development, Government Of India held Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi on 24th March 2015.
